Sam Arnold Hill (b. 1984) is a documentary photographer based in Austria. He works throughout Austria and Germany, across Europe and internationally. In summer 2027, he will relocate to Berlin. His photographic interests extend to different forms of social gatherings and events, including weddings, which he approaches from a documentary and observational perspective. His practice draws on humanist documentary photography, the traditions of photojournalism and the influence of Cinéma Vérité. Through his approach, Photographie Vérité, he examines the relationship between the photographer, the camera and the people being photographed. Central to this approach is the recognition that people bring their own experiences, histories and perspectives into every photographic situation. Rather than directing events towards a predetermined image, he responds to what unfolds, conscious of his own presence and its possible influence on the circumstances around him.
